Brent in2work brings together the expertise and resources of a full range of employment organisations in Brent to help local unemployed residents make the transition from welfare to work.
Brent Mencap Employment Service
Brent Mencap's Employment Service has been successfully placing people with a learning disability into paid work and work experience since 1994. As part of this they run Step by Step a tailored training course to prepare adults with learning disabilities for voluntary or work placements.
Building One Stop Shop
Building One Stop Shop provides training and employment services to West London residents who want to get into construction employment.
Career Development Group
The Career Development Group is a charity organisation which provides those actively seeking work with basic skills training, voluntary work placements, and professional training and development.
Community Careers Centre
The Community Careers Centre (CCC) is developed and managed by Kilburn residents to help the residents of Kilburn, Brent and North West London move successfully into learning or work. CCC provides information advice and guidance, training and computing facilities.
Fortunegate Community Housing
Fortunegate Community Housing in partnership with BOSS (Building One Stop Shop) are working to deliver a construction training initiative in Brent. They provide access to work for the unemployed, linking skills shortages to local resources and provide customized training. It also provides information, advice and guidance to local residents, including, interview techniques, C.V preparation, presentation skills and confidence building.
Head to Head Training
With premises in St. Raphaels Head to Head Training, is a registered charity which provides of training and education opportunities. Offers Basic Skills training in reading, writing and maths, I.T. courses, personal and communication skills training as well as impartial information and advice which is centered on your interests, education, training or employment needs.
Households into Employment Initiative
Households into Employment Initiative provides advice and help about jobs and training for unemployed people in the St Raphaels/Brentfield neighbourhood. Tailored to suit the individual's need.
Kilburn Into Training and Employment (KITE)
Kilburn Into Training and Employment (KITE) seeks to increase access to education, training and employment for people living in Kilburn and Carlton. Can provide support and assistance to people looking for work or who wish to access training or education.
Language2Work
Language2Work supports people with low levels of English language, helping them to overcome cultural barriers and gain sufficient skills and confidence to enter work. It involves six weeks of training, followed by one-to-one support , including careers counselling, supported job search, interview training and practice. Managed by the council and funded through the London Development Agency.
LEAP
Local Employment Access Point (LEAP)
Clients attend a free STRIVE workshop, an intensive job-readiness programme that focuses on the all-important soft skills that are needed to succeed in the world of work. On completion of the course jobseeks are assigned a Client Placement Officer who provides them with one-to-one support and guidance in their attempts to secure employment. Clients also have access to computers and telephones to help with their job search.
New Challenge
New Challenge helps unemployed jobseekers, of working age, who live in Brent, to find sustainable employment opportunities with local companies. New Challenge particularly welcomes enquiries from long-term unemployed people who live in Harlesden, Stonebridge, Carlton, St. Raphael’s, Church End and Roundwood. Employment opportunities range from security, retail, administration and customer services to healthcare, production and warehouse.
New Deal
New Deal is a government programme run through local jobcentres, which aims to give unemployed people the help and support they need to get into work. Participants get a personal adviser who helps them to prepare a personal plan to find a suitable job.
North Kensington Opportunities Centre
North Kensington Opportunities Centre provides free employment support and careers advice, and access to local vacancies to residents of Brent, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. This includes advice sessions at Harlesden Library, every Tuesday, 2pm-4pm, for an appointment call Jackie Faulkner 020 8964 1224.
REED in Partnership
REED in Partnership is part of the Reed family of companies, which has over 40 years of recruitment experience. Job seekers are assigned a Personal Adviser who guides them through the range of services, including access to a wide range of vacancies; help with basic literacy; support and training for people wishing to start their own business; help with job applications, childcare, travel costs and support towards interviews.
Refugees into Jobs
Refugees into Jobs provides a range of services to refugees from advice and guidance through to the provision of grants for necessary training and support once in work. Currently running a refugee engineers training course. Read about 4 refugee teachers who've been helped by the scheme.
Stonebridge Training and Employment Project (S.T.E.P)
S.T.E.P. assists clients into suitable employment, training courses and education. Each individual's needs are assessed an action plan agreed on with short/medium/long term objectives.
WorkDirections
WorkDirections supports Brent residents who have been out of work for over 18 months, as well as single parents and people on health-related benefits, to find suitable, lasting jobs. Read a case study of one Brent woman who joined the WorkDirections scheme.
Working Links
Working Links a public/private partnership between Job Centre Plus, Manpower and Capgemini to help the employed back to work. The focus is on the jobseeker's individual needs, looking at what jobs they'd be good at, and overcoming practical barriers to getting back to work. This can mean almost anything from arranging training or driving lessons, to paying for transport, childcare, or even new clothes for an interview. Once they get a job, consultants provide ongoing support to both the jobseeker and employer, to ensure everything runs smoothly.
