As a recognition and celebration of physical education and sporting achievements the Inspiring Brent PE and Sports Awards were held at Brent Town Hall on 15 July 2010.

Schools and community groups participated in the competition inspired by the London 2012 Games. Participants joined a league table online at brentbrain.org.uk/brentinspires. Medals were awarded for various sporting activities held during the year.

With 977 points, winners of the Gold Medal were Byron Court Primary School. Minesh Randiera who received the award is pictured here meeting guests Rodd Penney (Saracens RFU) and Larry Achike (British Olympic triple jumper).

Silver went to St Mary’s C of E Primary School with 925 points and bronze went to St Joseph's RC Junior School with 742 points.

Winner of the innovation award was Capital City School Sport Partnership for their Olympic Values reward system, designing boards, stickers, magnets and wrist bands to celebrate and recognise positive behaviour and work from young people.

A special award was also presented to the Tamil Cultural Arts centre for the positive engagement of a voluntary organisation to the Olympic and Paralympic values.

Subject to funding, the sports awards are hoped to be an annual event leading up to the London 2012 Games.
