London crime maps

posted on 21 November 2008
crime mapping from the Met Police
Brent residents can now take a look at the crimes taking place in their neighbourhood on the new London crime maps website.

The website provides information about the types of crime and the rates at which they are being committed. Statistics are taken from Metropolitan Police data and are used against Google Maps to allow internet users to access online information about exactly where and what crimes have occurred in their local area.

The Metropolitan Police Service have worked with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) to ensure that the identity of victims is protected. In accordance with the the Data Protection Act and Human Rights Act, the physical safety and emotional well-being of individuals must be protected and so any data that may inadvertently identify a living individual with that data must not be published.

You can take a look at the online London crime maps at maps.met.police.uk
